Theodore S. Makrinos

Theodore Makrinos is the Vice President of Engineering for Liberty Maritime Corporation and serves on the company’s Management Committee. He has over 18 years of technical ship management experience and expertise.

Named to this position in 2011, Mr. Makrinos is responsible for the safe, reliable and efficient technical operation and maintenance of the company’s fleet which is comprised of three 6,500 unit Pure Car Truck Carrier (PCTC) Roll On/Roll Off vessels, three 52,000 DWT Supramax dry bulk carriers and four 82,000 DWT Kamsarmax dry bulk carrier vessels. He oversees the company’s staff of engineers and ensures all vessels achieve maximum operations readiness while maintaining budgeting expectations and regulatory compliance.

Prior to this position, Mr. Makrinos served as Director of Engineering and was responsible for oversight of vessel maintenance and repair, budget preparation, stores and spare parts management, regulatory compliance, shipyard/drydock preparation and attendance. In addition, he played an integral role in Liberty Maritime’s new buildings program and has assisted in reviewing drawings and site supervision for the construction of PCTC and Kamsarmax vessels.

Mr. Makrinos joined the company in 2001 as a Superintendent Engineer and held progressively responsible positions in the Engineering Department.

Prior to joining Liberty Maritime, he held numerous ocean going positions and sailed extensively on U.S. and foreign flag vessels in various licensed engineering positions, including Chief Engineer.

A native of Brooklyn, New York, Mr. Makrinos earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Engineering Operations from Maine Maritime Academy, and holds a U.S. Coast Guard Chief Engineer’s license.

He is an elected member of the American Bureau of Shipping and The Society of Marine Port Engineers.
